Exploring Cardboard Memories Inc. and Finding Rare Scooby-Doo Collectibles
Located just off Sandalwood Parkway in Brampton, Ontario is a tiny collectibles store called Cardboard Memories Inc. that I had never noticed during past trips to the area. Known mostly as a place to find board games and trading cards, I wasn't expecting much in the way of nostalgic finds during a recent visit. However, a hunting excursion for Scooby-Doo merchandise yielded some intriguing surprises.
A Scooby Discovery
Walking through the front door of Cardboard Memories, the first thing that caught my eye was a HeroClix expansion pack featuring Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang. Titled "What I Learned Was...", this standalone game contained miniature figures of the beloved characters to use in the popular collectible miniatures game system. Priced at a reasonable $25, I was tempted but decided to look around some more first.
Blind Box Bundles
Not far from the Scooby HeroClix expansion sat a few bundles of blind boxed collectibles also featuring the meddling kids and their talking dog. Each bundle contained a random assortment of mini figures, but for just $15 it was a cheaper way to grow a Mystery Inc. collection without knowing exactly what figures you'd get. The risk made it less appealing than the guaranteed characters in the HeroClix pack, so I kept browsing.
The Original Board Game
Deeper into the store I spotted something even more exciting - the classic 1970s Scooby-Doo board game still in its original packaging! This relic included all of the familiar characters as playing pieces and promised "hours of mystery-solving fun". However, at $80 the price was a bit steep without knowing if the aged game would even still be enjoyable. It was tempting to take a chance, but I restrained myself for the time being.
Other Finds
Beyond Scooby-Doo, Cardboard Memories housed many other pop culture collectibles like Funko Pops, comic books, toys and card games. The Walking Dead merchandise in particular seemed popular. But it was the rare Scooby items that made the outing truly memorable and worthwhile. Overall it was a fun discovery to find such a specialized store in an unexpected location, and I may just have to go back for that vintage board game someday!
