Loungefly Dia de los Muertos Mini Backpack Review and Unboxing
Introducing the Dia de los Muertos Loungefly
Loungefly has done it again with their latest Disney themed mini backpack - this time celebrating the vibrant Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos. For those not familiar, Dia de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage living around the world. The holiday focuses on honoring deceased loved ones by creating ofrendas (offerings) and decorating their graves with colorful flowers and decorations like sugar skulls. The holiday is celebrated with parades, parties, music, and food on November 1st and 2nd.
Loungefly's Dia de los Muertos mini backpack expertly captures the spirit of this meaningful holiday in a stylish and functional way. As soon as I saw photos of this bag, I knew I had to add it to my Loungefly Disney collection! I pre-ordered it in September 2021 and patiently waited for its release. Was it worth the wait? Read on for my full review of this spectacular bag!
Unboxing and First Impressions
After eagerly tracking my package for days, my Loungefly Dia de los Muertos mini backpack finally arrived! I carefully opened the box and was immediately wowed by the beautiful detailing on the bag. The first thing that caught my eye was the vibrant embroidery on the front, featuring a sugar skull and floral designs in colors like fuchsia, turquoise, yellow, and burnt orange. The flowers, leaves, and swirls are accentuated with sparkly metallic threading that makes them pop.
The sugar skull itself has a stunning design, with floral motifs adorning the forehead, roses around the eyes, and curling tendrils extending from the teeth. The meticulous embroidery really makes the design shine. The black vegan leather background provides the perfect contrast to let the colors of Dia de los Muertos stand out.
Attention to Detail
One thing I've come to expect from Loungefly is excellent attention to detail, and this backpack delivers. Looking closely, you can see subtle touches like glitter on the teeth and intricately embroidered patterns on the flowers. The zipper ties and interior lining feature colorful Dia de Muertos prints as well. Even the black vegan leather itself has an eye-catching sheen to it.
On the backside, the embroidery continues with bright marigold flowers. Marigolds are heavily associated with Dia de los Muertos and represent hope and celebration. Of course, Mickey Mouse makes an appearance wearing a big festive sombrero with more marigolds and sugar skulls adorning the brim.
The colorful detailing extends to the shoulder straps as well, which feature a traditional Dia de los Muertos criss-cross stripe design in vibrant hues. Even the rivets on the straps are colored to match the bag. It's clear this backpack was crafted with care and appreciation for the culture and motifs of the holiday.
Functionality
Beyond just looking amazing, this backpack is thoughtfully designed to be user-friendly and functional. The main compartment is roomy enough to hold a mini iPad, wallet, sunglasses, and other daily essentials. A slip pocket inside is perfect for keeping my phone accessible but secure.
On the front is a handy zippered pocket which I use for items I need quick access to like lip gloss, gum, or hand sanitizer. The zipper runs smoothly and the vegan leather trim gives it a polished look. For added security, the zippers can be clipped together at the top.
The straps are padded so they stay comfortable on my shoulders, even when the bag is fully loaded. Between the stitched detailing and sparkly pops of color, the straps complement the design beautifully while also doing their job supporting the weight of the contents.
At 12 inches wide x 9 inches high x 4.5 inches deep, this backpack has enough room to carry my daily must-haves without being overly bulky or heavy when empty. It also stands up nicely on its own.
Showstopping Style
From the embroidery to the custom hardware, every element of the Dia de los Muertos mini backpack works together to create a bag that is both a joy to wear and a tribute to an important cultural tradition.
The striking colors and patterns are the perfect way to nod to my Mexican heritage. I can't walk through Disneyland without getting stopped and asked about where this amazing backpack came from! It sparkles in the sun and is eye-catching even from across the way.
I love that I can show my Disney love and celebrate my culture at the same time with this bag. While subtleMickey makes an appearance on the back, the main focus stays on Dia de los Muertos. It straddles the line perfectly between disney and boutique style.
The vegan leather and thoughtful construction means this bag will withstand frequent use and become one of my staples for years to come. I don't have to limit wearing it to just Dia de los Muertos season - it works year round!
Is the Dia de los Muertos Backpack Worth It?
If I hadn't made it clear already - yes, this bag is absolutely worth it! From the second I opened the box, I was wowed with the colorful, thoughtful design that celebrates an important aspect of my culture.
While the $85 price tag is on the high end, the intricate embroidery and sparkling details make every penny worth it. I know this is a bag I will treasure for years to come. The quality and construction will allow it to withstand frequent wear and tear.
This backpack instantly became my favorite Loungefly ever! If you have the chance to buy it, don't hesitate. Between the flawless design, versatile style, and functional details, you won't be disappointed adding this Dia de los Muertos mini backpack to your collection.
Whether you celebrate Dia de los Muertos or just appreciate gorgeous textiles and embroidery, this backpack is sure to impress. Loungefly nailed it once again with a special, culturally inspired bag that pops with vibrant colors and honors the spirit of the holiday.
