How to Install a DIY Patio Using Bellevue Porcelain Tiles
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install your own DIY patio using Bellevue white porcelain tiles from Tile Mountain:
Preparing the Base
The first step is to prepare the base for your new patio. Dig out the topsoil to a depth of 100-150mm and lay down 100-150mm of type 1 hardcore. Whack the area down at least three times to compact the hardcore.
Priming and Mixing Mortar
Next, you'll need to prime your patio slabs with tile adhesive primer. While the primer is drying, mix up some tile adhesive mortar using a drill and mixing paddle. The mortar will be used to lay down a bed for the porcelain tiles.
Laying the Tile Bed
Once the primer and mortar are ready, you can start laying down the tile bed. Use your leveling clips and a level to ensure the bed is perfectly flat and level.
Marking the Incline
Before laying tiles, mark out a 25mm incline over 1m to allow rainwater to drain away from the house. For my patio, the incline was around 50mm.
Setting Tile and Grout
Let the mortar bed cure for 24 hours before knocking out the leveling clips. Then start laying the tiles and brushing grout into the joints, keeping the surface wet. Allow the grout to cure fully before use.
