What size truss screed should I rent?

Choose a screed at least 2 feet wider than the area you are placing concrete. For example, for a 10 foot wide driveway, rent at least a 12 foot screed. This provides overlap to cover the entire width in fewer passes.

Can one person operate a screed?

For basic pull-style screeds, two or more people are required to smoothly pull the weight across the concrete. Larger roller-type screeds may allow a single user but work best with two or more.

How thick should my concrete pour be?

Aim for a minimum depth of 4 inches for the screed to glide over the surface without resting on wet concrete below. Deeper is generally better when feasible.

What pace should the screed be pulled?

The ideal speed is a steady, even pace allowing concrete to fully fill in behind the screed. Work as a team, allowing the speed of the slowest person to determine pace. Rushing will compromise results.
