How to Make Cool LEGO Sunglasses - An Easy DIY Craft for Kids
Are you looking for a fun craft to make with your LEGO bricks? Master Builder Alec has shared an ingenious tutorial for creating LEGO sunglasses that are perfect for summer. With just a handful of basic bricks, you'll be stylin' in no time!
What You'll Need
To make these LEGO sunglasses, you'll need the following materials:
- 13 LEGO plates in your color of choice (Alec used classic yellow)
- 1 LEGO plate with 4 studs (called a 1x4 plate)
That's it! You probably already have these common bricks in your LEGO collection. Let's get started on the tutorial.
Making the Frames
The first step is to construct the frames that will go around your eyes. Alec demonstrated making them as follows:
- Take 6 of the single stud plates and attach them end to end in an overlapping pattern of "over, under, over, under".
- Once you have a continuous loop of 6 plates attached, bend the chain into a circular shape to form one lens frame.
- Repeat with a second chain of 6 plates to make the other lens frame.
The 1x4 plate will be used later to connect the two frames together. For now, you should have two circular "lens" shapes constructed from the interlocking plates.
Attaching the Lenses
Now it's time to connect the frames and turn them into a wearable pair of sunglasses:
- Take your two lens frames and center one on top of the other so the holes line up.
- Insert the 1x4 plate through the holes so it connects the frames like a bridge.
- Gently bend the frames so they take on the typical sunglasses shape.
And just like that, you have a pair of funky LEGO sunglasses! The frames are flexible so they should fit most faces. Feel free to decorate them further if desired.
FAQs
Can other types of LEGO elements be used?
Yes, you're not limited to just plates. Feel free to experiment with different LEGO elements like tiles or other small pieces to create unique designs.
How do I store my LEGO sunglasses?
When not wearing them, store your sunglasses safely in a small LEGO container or ziplock bag. This will keep them together and help prevent losing any small pieces.
What if I don't have the exact pieces?
Don't worry if you're missing a piece - be creative! Substitute similar sized and shaped pieces that you do have available.
Can I make these for adults?
Absolutely! Just scale up the sizes a bit. Larger frames would work great as novelty or costume sunglasses for parties.
Any other design ideas?
Get inspired and try making heart shaped sunglasses for Valentine's Day or star shaped sunglasses like Alec suggested. Let your imagination run wild!
