The Highly Anticipated River Kings Schedule is Finally Here!

Hockey fans in Powell River, it's the moment we've all been waiting for - the River Kings schedule for the upcoming season has finally been released! As longtime supporters of our hometown team, the announcement of the new schedule is always an exciting time as we get to start planning which games we want to attend over the next several months.

Now that the full schedule has been published, our calendars are quickly filling up. Of course, we'll be at every single home game cheering on our Kings at the Hap Parker Arena. But for the dedicated fans among us, you can bet we'll also be hitting the road and making some trips to see our boys compete in enemy territory.

Home Opener Kicks Off an Action-Packed October

The River Kings will host their home opener on October 7th against the Nanaimo Clippers. Expect Hap Parker Arena to be absolutely rocking that night as we pack the stands for the first time this season. It's going to be awesome to see our guys back out on home ice after the long off-season.

October definitely won't disappoint in terms of excitement. The Kings will take on rivals like the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Victoria Grizzlies multiple times throughout the month. Some of the most intense hockey of the regular season always seems to happen when we take on foes within the Island Division.

November Features Several Extended Home Stands

One thing that jumps out about November's schedule is the number of consecutive home games the Kings will play. From November 4th through the 27th, the team will have home stands of 4, 3, and 5 games in a row. Buckle up for a whole lot of action at the Hap Parker Arena!

Having multiple games at home over the span of a few days is huge for our team. Not only will they get to sleep in their own beds and practice at their home rink, but playing in front of the Powell River crowd for an extended stretch can help the Kings get on a roll.

Holiday Road Trip Provides Tests Against Mainland Teams

A major part of the schedule I always look forward to is the holiday road trip when the Kings head over to Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland for games right before Christmas. This year that swing will take place from December 16th to 23rd.

These road contests against the likes of Coquitlam, Surrey, and Langley provide a great measuring stick as we get set to enter the second half of the year. Facing the mainland teams is always a battle - the Kings will need to bring their A-game to pick up wins on the road.

Post-Holiday Homestand Leads into Crucial January

Once December wraps up and the calendar flips to January, the push for playoff positioning really begins. Luckily the River Kings will have a chance to start 2023 off on the right foot with a trio of home matchups from December 30th to January 6th.

January is when the competition level really ramps up. Rivalry games, top versus bottom battles, and every point becoming more and more valuable - it's an exciting time filled with unpredictability. As fans, we've got to be ready to cheer on our boys every single night.

Down the Stretch They Come in Hunt for Playoff Spot

Before we know it, the regular season will be winding down. But there's still plenty of meaningful games left on the schedule into February and March.

I'm already looking ahead to see when we play some of the division leaders late in the year. Those could end up being pivotal games that decide postseason seeding and home ice advantage. They're definitely ones fans won't want to miss.

Of course, with how wide open and competitive the league is, every night brings a new challenge. Our Kings will need to keep battling right through the final horn of the last game if they hope to lock down a playoff berth.

Anything Can Happen Once the Postseason Arrives

Once the regular season ends, a brand new season begins. The BCHL playoffs bring an entirely different level of excitement, nerves, and passion for players and fans alike.

As we know all too well here in Powell River, the magic of playoff hockey can allow teams to go on surprising runs. We've seen eighth seeds knock off first seeds, underdogs somehow rally back when down in a series, and overtime thrillers that leave you breathless.

While the regular season schedule gives us an idea of what to expect, anything can happen when the postseason starts. Our Kings will need to leave everything out there on the ice if they hope to capture the ultimate prize.

Get Ready Powell River, It's Almost Hockey Time!

Well Powell River, are you ready for another year of River Kings action? The schedule release has only added to the hungry anticipation felt by the players, coaches, and fans.

The journey starts in October, but it will be here before we know it. Get your jerseys and gear ready - we've got a long hockey season ahead of us! Let's cheer on our boys every step of the way as they chase their ultimate dream. Go Kings go!
