An Exciting Amtgard Tournament in Ohio

If you enjoy live action role playing games that involve hitting opponents with foam weapons, then you may have heard about the recent Battlefield Blast tournament held in Ohio. This exciting event drew Amtgard groups from around the region for a lively 15 versus 15 team competition.

What is Amtgard?

For those unfamiliar, Amtgard is a non-profit organization focused on medieval and fantasy combat simulated through foam weapons and role play. Groups of members gather in local areas they call "kingdoms" to engage in a variety of battle games and creative pursuits. Participants make their own weapons and costumes and take on fantasy personas and backstories.

Amtgard kingdoms across the United States and beyond hold regular battle games and special events like this Battlefield Blast tournament. The games allow members to showcase their combat skills and strategic abilities developed through regular play.

Tournament Background

The Battlefield Blast event was held in the Amtgard kingdom of Burning Lands located in Ohio. Two players named @arifaithmaksima and myself drove over from Minnesota to attend and brought a team of 13 other fighters.

In total, there were 15 teams participating with 15 players each, making for an epic 225 player battlefield. Teams came from multiple nearby Amtgard groups, so this tournament offered a chance to face off against new foes.

Tournament Rules and Structure

This Battlefield Blast tournament had some special rules in place to make sure the large team battles ran smoothly:

  • Each team could distribute among themselves a total of 15 "lives" shared as they saw fit.
  • When a player was eliminated, they expended one life and went to respawn.
  • The last team with any remaining lives won.

In each battle, teams started at their home base with weapons ready and faced off in a huge melee across the center field. With careful strategy, teams could flank opponents, set up decoys, and turn the tide of battle. It made for dynamic, engaging gameplay.

Our Tournament Experience

As one of the traveling teams, we came prepared to make a strong showing on this Ohio battlefield. Our team practiced together regularly back in Minnesota, developing tactics tailored to our weapons and classes. Many of us had years of Amtgard experience to draw from as well.

When we arrived in Ohio, we were thrilled to compete against skilled fighters we rarely get to face. The opening battle felt chaotic with so many foam weapons swinging on all sides! With arrows raining down and magic spells flying past, we pressed forward as a coordinated unit.

After a tough loss in our first round, we rallied in the next battles by adjusting our strategy and class make-up. Our team savored the chance to test our might and proved we could hold our own. The passion for Amtgard shined through from all competitors.

Why Attend an Amtgard Tournament?

For Amtgard members interested in improving their skills, tournaments like Battlefield Blast offer many perks. Competing against new realms with a variety of fighting styles pushes you to grow. You also get to bond more deeply with your own team through the intensity of competition.

On top of the gameplay benefits, traveling to tournament events lets you immerse more fully in the Amtgard community. You’ll share meals, swap stories around the campfire, and form connections to last beyond the battlefield. That social spirit and camaraderie keeps many of us coming back.

Ready to Try This Exciting Hobby?

Whether the idea of foam weapon combat appeals to you as a fun way to exercise, a creative social outlet, or a chance to step into medieval adventures, groups like Amtgard offer an inclusive and engaging community. The Battlefield Blast event highlights everything this hobby has to offer.

If you want to give it a try, you can search for your local kingdom on the Amtgard website and visit one of their upcoming battle games. They are always eager to welcome new recruits. No prior experience is required to have a blast on the battlefield!
